Chiang Mai overview

This beautiful and culture-rich city in northern Thailand is a pure delight to explore with endless streets that are home to temples, temples and more temples. The old part of Chiang Mai is encompassed by a moat and the former walls that used to accompany the moat still stand in some places although they are largely in various state of ruin. Shopping at the local markets is great fun and haggling is part and parcel of shopping here so don’t be afraid to bargain. Handicrafts can be found throughout much of the city and the Ping River provides the backdrop for many of the city’s plushest hotels and dining choices, and is a pleasant place to sit despite its muddy look.
