Lampang overview

Lampang Travel Guide
One of the problems with labelling Thailand as a ‘tropical and exotic destination’ is that it doesn’t stay exotic for long! The more popular an area gets with visitors; the less exotic it feels when more arrive, but the beauty of the northern Thai town of Lampang is that it has retained its charm throughout its increase in popularity. Lampang, found close to the equally alluring cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, is situated on the banks of the Wang River. Many national parks are located near here and the city’s cultural magnetism is partly due to its multitude of temples. Local handmade goods such as cotton, wood carvings and ceramics make for popular souvenirs, and prices are slightly cheaper here than in Lampang’s more tourist-visited neighbours. The best way to tour the old town is by horse-drawn cart.
