Ranong overview

Ranong Travel Guide
Ranong is a quaint Thai border town on the western coast of Thailand, mainly only visited by foreigners partaking in visa runs. This is an experience it itself, however, has you leave your passport and your life in the hands of the prepubescent boat boys who will ferry you across the border to Kawthoung in Myanmar, stopping every 50 metres so you can be inspected by mean looking men with guns. On the other side you will be met by a set of equally young boys intent on helping you get through the particularly strict customs for the price of a small tip. As well as this, you may find yourself crossing the river in your open-topped boat the pouring rain, as Ranong is known for having a rainy season that lasts eight months.
