Trang was the first city in Thailand to have a rubber plantation. Hardly a claim to fame, Trang is now more commonly known for its friendly people, great food and beautiful beaches on its surrounding islands. Located on Thailand’s Southern Andaman Coast, Trang is similar in feeling to the historic settlements of Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi. Trang was the main port in this area and was used to transport good to the various nearby towns. The name is said to mean ‘dawn’, as ships from all over the world would dock at Trang Port during the early hours. Besides from the still thriving rubber business here, the city is also surrounded by the majestic Banthat Mountain Range and the Palian River runs through town.
