Udon Thani overview

Udon Thani Travel Guide
Sat within the province of the same name in the boiling hot and dusty northeast, the major Isaan centre of Udon Thani is largely non-touristy and cheap. While there is not a lot to see and do in the big city of Udon itself, the nearby UNESCO World Heritage site of Ban Chiang is a must; featuring as it does well-preserved prehistoric finds. The city also lies amid pretty surrounds, with paddy fields in all directions and a long, lazy river snaking through it all. National parks and waterfalls are also in abundance and the Laos border isnít far away to the north, where tourists can cross the Friendship Bridge and into Vientiane in time for tea. Trains and planes both converge on Udon Thani from Bangkok.
